Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest Chapters 42, 43 and 44 Review - The "Erza is Awesome but so is Laxus" Edition

Twists, gasps, turns and more! There's a fluffy tail, red lightning, girls trapped in cocoons, and weird gum! Do you guys need anymore than that? I don't! So here we are with another triple review, as Fairy Tail has really been killing it lately! Good on them!

Boom Raider! (Best bad-joke I could think up...)

Starting our review is the Right Hand Church, where Wendy is unable to release Carla and so is encouraged to go on without her after Nebal. She does so, and the two have a brief battle in which Nebal eats some strange gum to get stronger, and Wendy takes some serious damage. And we now move to Lucy's group, who have caught Romeo, Macao and Wakaba in the cards, and are now capturing Lisanna. As they hear the battle of Mirajane and Elfman, we move to the Left Hand City Church.

Kiria is defeated, and Laxus stands supreme. Before Laxus can destroy the orb, Erza bursts in defiantly to stop him. Sensing a tough battle ahead, Erza prepares her armour. Meanwhile, Natsu and Happy are making it to the very location Touka just happens to be at, and she's knocked out. After some debate about what to do with her, Touka wakes up and begs for help.

HA!

The next chapter starts with Lucy's group trying to figure out what to do next regarding the Strauss Situation. They bring up Touka, and her burning loins for Natsu, but Lucy is convinced Natsu won't really notice. And back to Natsu and Happy, who are held in an embrace by Touka, as we get a surprise when... she mistakes Happy for Natsu?!

Yes, in a peculiar twist, Touka was once captured by bandits and mistook Happy to be the leader of the duo when they rescued her. Getting the names corrected, she apologises and hugs Happy before she finally reveals her true form... She's an Exceed, with her human form belonging to the White Wizard. And the chapter ends with some pretty sweet violence, as Laxus and Erza battle it out.

Our final chapter is the toughest to talk about, because it appears to be mostly the battle. Erza vs Laxus, with constant fighting and the reappearance of Laxus' Red Lightning! Despite Erza using enchantments she learned from Wendy to make her swords fire and ice, as a nice homage to her buddies, Laxus doesn't fall and keeps delivering the pain. Kiria is reduced to the role of shocked onlooker.

I never liked Autumn.

Opinion: Everybody's kung-fu fighting!

Those moves were as fast as lightning! Erza and Laxus is one of those battles we've all felt was sorely needed in the main story, so it's great to finally see them duke it out, no holds barred. If this had been a friendly bout, it wouldn't be as fun. It's like seeing Goku and Vegeta spar instead of Goku vs Majin Vegeta. Still good, but we want to see them both pushed to the edge and determined to win no matter what! Honestly, my only real complaint is seeing Kiria pushed to the role of Speedwagon, gasping and reacting as if she's a weakling who can't compare. Don't do that! Not to her!

Laxus is so badass he survived the Double-Page-Slash-Pose!

The conversations with Lucy's group are probably the weakest factor in these chapters, since they tend to boil down to "What if we do this? Nah" over and over. I can see why these conversations are needed, but I just wish it had been reduced down and didn't take up nearly half a chapter.

Seeing Touka be gaga for Happy and not Natsu is pretty hilarious, honestly. I'm sure her being an Exceed was one of the theories running around for a while (remember her ass near the start of the manga? Of course you do!) and it's a good one to see confirmed. Who else is looking forward to seeing Carla's reaction? I don't care for love triangles much, but I do love a good laugh and manga tend to make them funny, at least for a while. Hell, make Pantherlily get involved and we can have a fun square of cat shenanigans!

Worst Part: Lucy talks the talk.
