Yeah, I couldn't think of a decent pun there so I just gave up. Hopefully, that's the only disappointment you experience in this review, as we take a look at returning faces, scary faces and faces getting a surprising amount of violence brought upon them. So sit back, relax, and get your face ready.
Did we ever get to see Wendy train in martial arts? Was it Roshi or Jiraiya? Or... Yamchaaaaa? |
Although she is unable to use the full extent of Irene's power, which isn't a surprise considering Irene could literally reshape the continent, Wendy still delivers a powerful series of blows to Nebal and causes him to lose control of both his rage and his face, resulting in him literally becoming a dragon-monster! Still no spider though, surprisingly.
Think we'll ever see a hypothetical look at how the Dragon Slayers would look if they became dragons too? I want to see Cobra Commander Dragon! |
Well, it turns out Irene used the same enchantment she once used to take Fairy Heart out of Mavis (hooray for callbacks!) and Nebal is unable to use magic, at least for now. He might recover later. Irene reveals she is not an actual ghost, so I suppose the best way to think of her is like the Joker from Arkham Knight. A copy/personality come to life on it's own, that only Wendy can see and hear. And Irene offers to teach Wendy the same enchantment so she can take on the White Wizard!
Opinion: She's a minor, Irene!
Yes, if you were worried like I was that Irene would have lost a bit of her edge after she took herself out to keep Mashima-senpai from keeping her too dark, then be at ease because Irene appears to at least be somewhat of a problematic character. She's clearly not evil anymore, but she's flashing her stuff, taking over little girls and causing explosions, so there's at least something there. More importantly, the implication is she's going to be sticking around for a while and an invisible ghost friend can be quite fun for shenanigans when they aren't that awful "see the one who died recently" cliche.
The censorship here is creative, but it must be exhausting! |
This arc has gone on for quite a bit longer than expected, but I'm not actually that down on it overall. The way Wraith's story ended was horrible, sure, and you could argue that the lack of a deep plot is hurting it, although personally I disagree. There's something to be said for an arc that does it "simply but effectively". Just look at almost every single Dragon Ball arc. Let's just hope they can stick (Ha! Nebal!) the landing.
Manga Rating: 4/5
Best Part: Irene blows stuff up.
Worst Part: Irene might not be as bad as before.
I must be Gollum because all I can think of is how precious this is. |
Born under the stars of the Dark Gods, Shiggins owns the power of the Great Eye and is utterly magnificent in his omniscience. If you dare to discover more about someone as great as him, then go ahead. And to all my friends and family members, YOU are wrong and I should be disappointed! Not the other way round!,. You can find out about him or ask him stuff on ask.fm/shigginsishere or go to his tumblr page http://otakugajeel.tumblr.com/
