It's a real shame these chapters are as long as a typical weekly chapter, since it really renders my reviews shorter than I feel is right for a double-review. I suppose it makes them easier to review, but for the sake of pacing and development, I think I'll always be wishing for longer chapters until we go back to weekly, if that ever happens again. Anyway, no point going on about that yet again. If you remember, I wasn't very positive in my last review and this time I'm... not as bad.
Our review starts with Natsu looking in shock at the destroyed ships from last week, and caring about the people as much as I did, as he wonders how to stop Aldoron. With no plans whatsoever, Natsu decides to give it a go anyway and unleashs his most powerful attack, the Demolition Fist, on Aldoron's head. Then he gets told that was worth 1hp.
A God Seed reads Cana's mind to find the strongest person they can, and then suddenly transforms into Gildarts, a face I've really been missing during this arc. And not only does he have the appearance, he can (somehow) use the real Gildarts' magic. Meanwhile, others are being attacked by God Seeds, and some of them have become an army of Makarovs.
Aaaah, the good old Scottish way! |
In our next chapter, the Lucy group are still fighting and realise that if Juvia is able to use her magic, showing WW's control is no longer working then that should mean the others are free too. It's a brief reunion, of course, until the characters we know and love proceed to kick ass. And that's what Natsu is currently doing too with his group.
Natsu purposefully uses his powers to remove all the God Seeds, and a lone one returns to read his mind. And this summons... Zeref! Seed-Zeref scoffs at this, saying Natsu's relationship with the real Zeref will not affect the outcome. Natsu uses the way of words to make Seed-Zeref talk about how Aldoron is precious to them, and this activates Zeref's magic.
There's actually something kinda sweet about Natsu openly calling a Zeref clone that. |
Opinion: So... Natsu wants to kill Aldoron now?
Don't get me wrong, I actually really like the use of Zeref's magic here. It takes the typical trope of a clone army and mixes it with previously-established rules to create a solution to a big problem. It makes sense in this world and scenario and because of that, it feels clever. Unfortunately, it ends up feeling fairly out of character for Natsu because while I can buy him using something dark and grim if need be, I struggle to accept Natsu is fine with murdering Aldoron all of a sudden, especially after meeting Mercuphobia and knowing what he's like. Natsu is a beater, not a murderer.
Then again, we still don't know what Aldoron's personality is. Unlike Mercuphobia, who started his arc by showing off his personality before he turned into a giant dragon, Aldoron has always been a giant mindless dragon and has displayed no character whatsoever. Honestly, since all we've gotten to see is him destroying ships and his followers attacking Fairy Tail, I'm starting to wonder if the full intention is to believe he's just a wooden dick who deserves this. Yes, he's full of rage or panic right now but... I'm sticking with dick(ing).

Manga Rating:
52: 2.5/5
53: 3/5
Best Part: Seed-Zeref.
Worst Part: Aldoron the bore.
Just remembering those fanfics/arts where Natsu is all suave and romantic... ha. |
Born under the stars of the Dark Gods, Shiggins owns the power of the Great Eye and is utterly magnificent in his omniscience. If you dare to discover more about someone as great as him, then go ahead. And to all my friends and family members, YOU are wrong and I should be disappointed! Not the other way round!,. You can find out about him or ask him stuff on ask.fm/shigginsishere or go to his tumblr page http://otakugajeel.tumblr.com/
I’d like to think that Natsu thought of Zeref not to kill Aldaron, but to weaken him and that Zeref’s curse would do just the trick. Can’t say I blame him, given the situation.
ReplyDeleteThat is more in line with his character, but Natsu showed no indication he thought of it like that. Hence my complaint, unfortunately.
