Theme: Quick fights.
Sorry for the late review, guys. I've been busy, tired, and I was finishing off Spiritfarer. It's so good, guys! You really should check it out! It will also help you feel better as you feel disappointment in the lack of story going on in Fairy Tail. Eden's Zero was okay though.
Hiro Mashima summed up in two lines. |
Fairy Tail
And so we return again to Natsu and co getting told a bunch of stuff. Faris, who used to be WW but not really, tells them that Elentir is about to literally explode from it's overabundance of magic. Faris is part of a collective of priestesses that use Whiteout to erase magic and keep it from going too far, and then Selene appeared before Faris.
Selene told her that she's one of the Five Dragon Gods, and that Faris needs to kill the other four using her unique power and remove all of Earthland's magic, and if she doesn't then Selene will destroy Elentir with her immense power. And that's why Faris possessed a cat, to get the Aqua Aera ability, and went to Earthland, as you do. And she began to take magic from people, causing her to go mad and crazy and fun.
Can Selene's legs save this chapter? No but they're clearly trying their best! |
Faris keeps talking, confused by why Aldoron was revived instead of being drained when she destroyed the orbs, and this is when Selene arrives in an Aqua Aera portal. And now it's Selene's turn to talk, where she tells us she likes staying in Elentir and killing humans to keep the magic down. Her plan was to revive Aldoron from the start, purely so he could cause some destruction and fun on Earthland, and then she shoots the pleading Faris.
Natsu finally does something and races forward, so Selene decides to join in the fun and transforms into a dragon! The day becomes night from her appearance, and the new moon grows until it teleports the main group and Faris on top of a cloud. As Wendy heals Faris, they all realise they are now in Elentir!
Opinion: Oh look, something actually happened.
Last time, I complained. I complained and complained because it was mostly exposition and Faris being revealed to be super-nice and timid. I still stand by that but honestly, I was just bored more than annoyed this time. So much standing around, talking about what's going on, and what they're going to do next. You know what would be better? Showing it!
No, it's a dragon. |
Oh Erza. I can always depend on you. |
At least we got a brief glimpse of Selene's dragon form and the power it wields. Almost makes me wonder how they can possibly defeat her when she can just teleport them away whenever she wants, but that's a problem for Future Natsu. And it might be purely to change the setting, but I think the idea of her very presence turning the sky from day to night is something that at least helps her stand out. God, I hope the next review is a positive one...
Manga Rating: 1.5/5
Best Part: Selene gets to show off for a moment.
Worst Part: So boring I'd be shocked if the anime didn't try to shove some fanservice or a subplot to liven things up.
Eden's Zero
Shiki is a grumpy boy, facing off against the villainous trio and using his Gravity Ether to free his pals and get some cleavage fanservice going. Seems necessary. This is when an army of drones appear in the sky, with the name "Forest" on them, and they open fire on everyone, both hero and prick. Bombs explode, and Orc demonstrates his own badass ability to fight back, while Shiki realises he's been seperated from the others.
Wow, did Ziggy clone Shiki? |
In typical anime fashion, everyone is in different groups for the inevitable fights, and Weisz gets a call from Hermit about going back to Eden's Zero because he needs to stop the virus from infecting Hermit, Sister and Witch. We finish our first chapter with our heroes about to face off against villains. Homura is stuck against Mora, Rebecca and the mascots are against the smoking hot (literally) Britney, and Shiki gets Orc, of course.
A leaf bra. Extremely important for the plot. |
Britney is attacking Rebecca while made entirely out of smoke, and is even able to use electrical attacks on her. Meanwhile, Homura is suffering from the heat around her, which Mora is taking advantage of, and she ends up in pain from his attacks. Back to Shiki, we see him activate his Overdrive form to unleash a barrage on Orc.
Opinion: Lots to see, little to nitpick.
The funny thing about this chapter is we've seen this exact scenario so many times in so many manga. Characters split up, they run into their assigned enemy, and the fight begins. I'm pretty sure this was exactly what was going on when I quit Black Clover actually. There was some fish people or something... I dunno, people tell me it's great but I can't get into it. Does it get better after that, or is it clear I'm just not able to get into it now? Let me know in the comments below.
The planet is crying out in pain! Can't you hear it, Shiki?! |
I always feel guilty when chapters like this are up. They're enjoyable to read but I can't always talk about them outside of enjoying the combat and abilities. So I'm going to end this review with some great advice: Get Spiritfarer.
Manga Rating: 3/5
Best Part: Villain's powers.
Worst Part: Very little to like or dislike.
That dog is not okay. |
I'm still pissed at Faris not being actually the White Wizard. Honestly we didn't need one more "not actually evil" character who's shy and couldn't hurt a flower, especially since a few chapters ago she looked so sadistic and evil. Back then she was way more interesting and enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteSelene has made a "strong" first appearance, making clear she wants to be the center of the shit going on, so I hope she doesn't disappoint (her legs sure didn't lol).
And honestly, please another Dragon Slayer defeat her. Natsu has already taken on Mercuphobia and Aldron, so having another one will be fresh.
And about Edens Zero, still enjoying the fights. The recent talks between Shiki and Orc make me believe that we're soon to discover much more about the Gravity Gear, and perhaps something about Shiki's origins? They've talked some about his origins in the beginning of the arc, plus we have the involving of the Demon King, so who knows.
And last, about Black Clover, you left on the Water Temple Arc. Dude, you really should finish it. Not gonna spoil, but the final battle is one of the best in recent shounen, and actually it's what made me stick with the series. Just find it out for yourself.
If you don't enjoy it, broh, you'll miss a lot. The recent arcs have all been great, and the manga is on fire right now.
Yeah, I really let the Faris "twist" (cough retcon cough) have it last time, so I recommend going there for most of my bitching about it... But it sucks, it really really sucks. And I'm still not convinced of it, just accepting I don't have a choice. So in future reviews, I'll probably be snarky over it but not by too much. Maybe. No promises though.
DeleteThat would be nice actually. Wendy coming in and taking down Selene would be great but much like Goku and Luffy, I doubt Natsu will let the main opponent be taken by someone else. We live in hope though.
God, I somehow totally forgot about Shiki having mysterious origins. Been a while since anything of note came up with it, but it could be interesting, since the Gravity Gear seems to be making more than one appearance. Could be our next Dragon Slayer magic.
Hmm..... Because we both agree on legs, I will give Black Clover another shot. I do hear about it a lot after all. Thanks for letting me know and for reading!
Ah, I'm the one who should thanks for the reviews you make. Been reading them since August, and it's nice I found a blog dedicated to this kind of articles :)
DeleteSince Ignia is sure for Natsu to defeat, and Selene is challenging him, it sucks to know that he'll be probably taking on all of the Dragon Gods. We have 7 main dragon slayers, recently a guild made of them, and only one is actually slaying them. But yeah, we live in hope.
We visited Granbell, few mentioning about his origins, the involvement of the Demon King, focus on Gravity Gear... If Mashima isn't planning to reveal something about
Shiki's origins, I wonder where is going with all of this.
And if we have the next "Dragon Slayer Magic" with the Gravity Gear, I won't be surprised, especially considering the events in chapter 118.
You won't regret reading Black Clover.
Hooray for legs!
