Yas Queen!
So just like last time, I'm going to focus on just doing the review itself rather than catching you all up on what happened in these chapters. I think that's best for all of us for now, especially Selene who clearly wants us all to pay attention to her rather than everyone else. She really took over this review, didn't she?
Only humans? But what about the pigs, or ferrets, or bugs, or politicians? |
Starting off this review, it's the fun stuff we're all used to. We've seen it a million times by now, but this group of characters in the guild, including the Raijin Tribe and the best ship Gajevy, still manage to be charming and consistent enough in their personalities that it's not a bad time to watch them casually hang out and banter. None of it was really a standout, especially compared to other times like barrel surfing, but it's still better than the Elentir stuff was.
More surprising however was the scene with Erza and Jellal afterwards, where he got the offer to join Fairy Tail and be closer to Erza. It's a welcome step forward for the character and the relationship that has been needing to progress for quite some time now, but I doubt he'd actually join. Knowing him, there's going to be some big excuse about why he can't join and must travel with the Oracion Seis and Merudy instead, but it does at least feel like we're moving forward for once. You know me, I'm tired of Jellal repeating himself, so this was nice.
You ever wonder what it'd be like to bathe with your friends? Because I imagine it'd be horrible. I hate my friends. Yes, even you. |
Of course, the main draw of these two chapters is Selene and how she took the cliché-but-still-enjoyable route of teaming up with the other villains of the series. For some, her murder of the guild master might have been predictable but I was surprised he got taken out as quickly as this without even a meeting of the Fairy Tail squad. It's an effective way to have her take control though, so I have very little to really complain about there.
Me neither! Gosh, she's so relatable. |
Selene's motivation is essentially the same as Tartaros' Guild, in which she will rule the world by wiping out the element that prevents this. (Instead of magic, it's the other dragons). It's a thin motivation, but it is effective enough since I've been mostly enjoying her screentime. What's more surprising is she dropped the bombshell that Elefseria, the one who gave them this quest in the first place, is their next target and a dragon like Acnologia! Wait, we already knew that. It's just been so long since we got told that I actually forgot it was confirmed in the beginning... but it's surprising we're going back to him already! I thought he was going to be the final boss or something.
The "coincidence" of Team Natsu going to visit Elefseria right at this moment to see if he knows anything about the last Dragon God is a bit... well, it's bullshit. But hey, I'm not going to complain about some plot contrivance if it means we're in for a fun time this arc. With Kyria, Suzaku, and more guaranteeing they'll be major players for now, again, let's hope they can keep things enjoyable and Faris-free.
Manga Rating: 3.5/5
Best Part: Selene and Team Rockers team up.
Worst Part: The unnatural reason behind the inevitable meeting of Team Natsu and Team Baddy.
