Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest Chapters 106, 107 and 108 Review

Are you a cat person or a Dogramag person?

Okay, I have a bunch of stuff to get sorted and deal with so let's get into this one and have it be a fun read so I can get back to... procrastinating and panicking instead of actually doing them. Ha ha, adulting is fun! Anyway, we got dragons! We got rocks! We got sexy men and punching children! What more could you ask for in a catch-up review from yours truly?

Those smiles... They liiiiike each other!

Starting on a positive note, I really appreciated that the trio of chapters we had here kept things mostly interesting from a visual standpoint. While the location of the labyrinth is a very drab setting, the actual characters involved manage to keep my attention. There was a literal dragon battle which will almost always be a win, followed by a new rock dragon appearing that was reminiscent of the one that fought Cobra during the climax of the Grand Magic Games arc, and finally that rock dragon's human form quickly revealing itself, and looking like a fairly interesting character. It would have only hurt Dogramag's character if he looked like yet another stone-faced (HA!) Final Fantasy protagonist, but instead he's got a design with immediate personality. He also kinda looks like DK West from No Straight Roads, which means I now beg... no... DEMAND, a rap battle in the next chapter.

Place your bets on the origin of the scar! High chance it was Ignia, low chance it was Rustyrose.

Sticking to Dogramag for a little longer, it's interesting to note how his connection with Ignia helps to make them both more interesting than Acnologia sadly ever was. Ignia is a cold-hearted bastard, with a love of destruction and massacre, but he openly called Dogramag his pal and was pleased to see him come back to life. The two of them have a shared taste for carnage, and if Acnologia had had a character like this to interact with, we might have gotten a firmer grasp on who he was as a person and what really drove him. I also just love villains getting along with each other, and I hope Dogramag (boy, that name is awkward to type out so much) remains for the future if this series is planning to keep going. If only because he and Ignia make a visually great duo together. One is so tall, the other isn't! That's literally all that's needed!

With the exception of the strongest one Kirin, and maaaabye Suzaku, that's Diabolos essentially dealt with in this arc, which is disappointing for both Gajeel and Gray since neither of them have done much to contribute emotionally or physically besides stand around and offer commentary. Unless we include Gajeel comically knocking out Haku... Ha! Victory for Gajeel! Seriously though, I'm curious what the plan is here because right now, it's very much looking like Laxus is dealing with this guy by himself. I guess they have to just buddy up with Natsu and Suzaku to play support roles? That's a lame idea, considering how much the others have gotten to do.

I need this animated quickly. I've had my Persona 5 screensaver for ages and would like something new.

What's funny to me is that it's obvious what's going to happen next from Natsu's perspective, he will fight Dogramag, but I'm honestly unsure of the rest. Will Selene die, before being forced to turn good in a terrible retcon like a certain White girl? Will Gajeel and Gray get to do something besides follow Natsu? Will Suzaku do the smart thing and fight Dogramag too? Will Laxus vs Kirin feel like a distraction or an integral part of the proceedings going forward? Is Natsu going to fight such a final boss without Lucy even watching? Is Elefseria actually good and he's going to die, with there being no final plot twist of him being a big darn baddy? That last one would genuinely shock me because I've distrusted that guy since page 1.

In summary, the main character's path is easily followed and understandable, but I do have my worries about the others and their involvement in the rest of this arc. Still though, mostly great character visuals and more glimpses into Ignia's personality and style help to keep things engaging throughout this trio and I hope to have you all reading my next articles soon enough. Thanks, guys!

He's making a... a... Okay, seriously. Why is Gajeel not the main character of a spinoff or something, AT LEAST?!

This is just weird. And specific. Weirdly specific.

Food is good.
