Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest Chapters 80 and 81 Review

 Written by Shiggins

Suzaku is a Saint!

Apologies for the delay with this review, people. My shit job is making me and everyone else who works there sit through a bunch of long and condescending presentations so our rich bastard boss can keep giving himself bonuses during a pandemic. I need a new job.... Anyway, that's me done rambling about myself. Now it's review time! And not just any review... A positive review! (Although if anyone can tell me about a paid writing job or donate to my Patreon, I'd be so damn grateful, you have no idea!).

Someone call Violet Evergarden! I've discovered what love is!

Our story begins again, this time with Natsu and Suzaku staring each other down in surprise and confusion, trying to figure out who their potential opponent is. Throughout this interaction, which also includes the rest of the Fairy Tail group arriving and meeting him, we learn that Suzaku is quite the oddball who finds nudity hilarious.

Oh no, not ANOTHER isekai...

Unfortunately, this silliness comes to an end when Suzaku realises his mistake that he's been chatting with the enemy of his guild Diabolos. Suzaku has no choice but to attack, and he swings his sword to heavily injure Erza and break her sword! Before Natsu can even get a proper chance, he is slashed as well and defeated!

To make this situation even more dangerous, Selene and her two remaining fighters show up to fight. Team Fairy Tail do a runner while carrying the injured Natsu and Erza, while The Great and Powerful Mimi, as well as Hakune, give chase. Selene and Suzaku are going to fight!

It's so pretty! Somehow!

The next chapter starts with Selene and Suzaku having their first fight, with both of them exchanging magic attacks until finally, Selene takes her first cut on the cheek when Suzaku uses the power of "Kurnugi", the Sword Saint Dragon that Suzaku ate to gain the Dragon Slayer power. Selene is amused by this, and decides to take on the anime villain cliché of "taking this seriously".

Back to the chase of our main characters, they are given a surprise when Touka's water ring opens up and saves them. Does that mean the chase is over? Not at all, as Mimi uses her great scent to track them down and uses her amazing body to run faster! Back at the Whiteout Village, the priestess is given a surprise by these newcomers, and Wendy begins her treatment of Natsu and Erza when the door opens up and Mimi arrives with Hakune! Our chapter ends with the moon's size expanding, as they release Selene is unleashing her power.

Opinion: What a great duo!

Maybe I'm just in a better mood from last time, but these two chapters really did a much better job for me personally.

WAIFU COVER!

For starters, Suzaku! What an enjoyable character interaction this man has provided us. Serious when the story calls for it, but not so above it all that he is a total buzzkill for the show's comedy and hijinks. He's weird, he's funny, and yet none of it sacrifices his badassery. Almost everyone in this Diabolos guild has really managed to settle in to Fairy Tail's style, and I've been pleasantly surprised by them.

Mimi and Hakune have also shown a lot of character this time, although not as much as Suzaku of course. Mimi is still fantastic, showing pride in her strength as a part of her femininity, while Hakune is a lot more... dainty? No. That's not the word. I'm struggling for the right word honestly, but she is quite a fun delicate balance to Mimi that makes me quite impressed at how much I enjoyed their short time together.

The fights are fantastic as well! Not the Suzaku vs Natsu and Erza one, since that was basically a one-hit KO, but the fight between Suzaku and Selene has been full of so much magical flair and variety. Countering each other, shouting out their fighting techniques' names, all that good stuff. Also Selene leaping over Suzaku was just really really pretty, guys! The only part I'm confused about is why Erza didn't just use her Anti-Sword-Saint-Slayer-Dragon-Magic-Excelsior that she will probably reveal in due time to win against Suzaku when she's back up again...

Manga Rating: 4/5

Best Part: Suzaku. All of Suzaku.

Worst Part: I've still got more work to do... oh sorry, I meant to say I found the priestess annoying.

Don't show me Freed as if he matters. Don't get my hopes up like that.
