Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest Chapter 60 & Eden's Zero Chapters 101 and 102 Review

Written by Shiggins

Big changes!

Well, I said I was going to do it and here we are. One review, both properties of Hiro Mashima! Hopefully enough people read these so it's worth doing, because these two mangas are constantly giving me more and more to talk about. So please read, share, subscribe, click the bell, sign the contract, create a password, answer the confirmation email and light the beacons! Here we go!

Yes! It's clobberin' time!

Fairy Tail

As GS-Aldoron stands in shock from Gears' defeat, he begins to feed Natsu his view on humanity as nothing but food for him to live off of. Believing himself to be strong enough to eat the Gods, literally, he attacks Natsu since he's the "brother of Ignia", but Natsu denies it and says he's Zeref's brother. Awww...

Teeheehee.
Natsu in on a time limit, since the other God Seeds will eventually return, so Natsu and Aldoron fight it out. Meanwhile, outside we see a giant Gajeel battling the dragon itself while also on a time limit. We get a reaction from a bunch of the Fairy Tail gang before we cut to GS-Aldoron about to use what is most likely his trump card.

FT Opinion: The end is nigh!

GS-Aldoron's personality has now been fully realised, which means we can get to enjoy seeing him get his ass beat from both sides. And while I have crapped on Natsu and GS-Aldoron recently, I can't deny the satisfaction of Natsu punching his face in so maybe I've been lying to myself about how much I want this fight to happen. Maybe I really want to see Natsu take this dude down a notch. And obviously, a giant Gajeel beating down a colossal dragon for all to see is beautiful. The best character has upgraded to the best size.

A good sign for how hot this chapter will be.
Of course, we're now about to see some big attack from GS-Aldoron that implies he's been neglecting to use it up until now. And as we all know, that essentially means this is the final attack GS-Aldoron is capable of. Is he going to try to absorb the life-force of everyone on his back? Will it be vine-tentacles? Flower power?! Well, whatever it is, he'll have to do it fast because it just so happens that both of the big battles have inconvenient time limits to raise the stakes even higher than they already are! What a twist!

Manga Rating: 4/5

Best Part: Giant Gajeel!

Worst Part: Arbitrary time limits for all.

Eden's Zero

The crew have arrived back on Shiki's home planet Granbell, and Hermit opens up about how Shiki and Ziggy lived here together, and the Four Shining Stars had their memories wiped of where Shiki  originally came from. This is when they come across the remains of the robots who lived here, and Shiki cries as Hermit uses the memories of the robots to find out the truth and how they pretended to go haywire.

Bone Daddy.
This emotional moment is stopped by the appearance of Ziggy himself! All battered and weathered, Ziggy uses his own gravity powers to destroy the ground around them, and shocks Shiki by saying he regrets ever raising him. Ziggy has turned his back on humanity, and as a massive ship comes into view, he declares that the robots will rise up over humans. And before our first chapter ends, he demands Pino to come with him.

An open mouth on a ship doesn't seem very practical.
Obviously, everyone has their own questions about why Ziggy is like this, why he's wanting robots to rise up, what that ship the Eden's One is, but Pino is in the most distress as she starts to walk forward. Ziggy starts to take over Pino's free will to make her follow her programming and delete her memories of the group, but Shiki snaps her out of it with a speech, despite Ziggy destroying the entire area around them.

Finally, Pino returns to normal and Ziggy gives up on her. Flying to Eden's One, he unleashes another attack of destruction on them all to finish the job but Eden's Zero makes a return and saves them. As the Eden's Zero crew try to figure out the situation, they get a video call from Connor, who you might remember as the unfunny old man from the other timeline. Well, he's with Ziggy and serving under him. Ziggy introduces the new Four Shining Stars!

EZ Opinion: Ziggy Stardust. Is that a good pun? I hope so.

I'll start by addressing the fact we're back on Granbell, since I actually really dislike this decision. When this tragedy occured in chapter 1, it was made all the more poignant by the fact that Shiki never knew about it. The sacrifice of these robots was to never be known by the one they cared about the most, and they had made peace with it since it would ensure a happy future for Shiki. This doesn't necessarily take that sacrifice away, but Shiki finding out literally everything that happened and why feels like a classic example of not letting a good moment rest and it does at least hurt the impact from before. Shiki never knew, but the audience did, and that's what made us feel sorry for both him and them. Sometimes, it's best to leave a tragedy alone. And the only upside I can really see with this is that it could impact Shiki's development as a character, making him potentially see the power of a sacrifice and that a lie can be used for good in certain situations. If that's where we're going with this, great! If not, boo.

Well, I want to be a robot so let's trade!
So Ziggy is back, and bad now! I think it was inevitable we'd see some form of attack from him eventually, since we had been hinted to his power before and his design is just perfect for a fight, but I didn't exactly expect it this way. I'm personally hoping Ziggy has gone full villain, disillusioned with humanity after something happened to or around him, and this could impact how he approaches Hermit in the future, who went through her own horrific ordeals with humanity. Of course, as shown before, tragedies can be easily subverted in some way and we might be about to find out that Ziggy was good all along or some rubbish. I sincerely hope not, because I already dig Ziggy being the main villain for now, and I don't care for the convenient trope of pretending to be evil the whole time. If/When Ziggy becomes good again, let it be because he saw the errors of his own ways through the efforts of Shiki and others, not because he never forgot how he was and was just trolling the audience. With the mental torture of Pino, I think it's safe to say Ziggy is bad for now but we'll see where it goes. I'll try not to mention this worry too much in the future.

Ziggy and mechanicals being the main villains does open up a ton of possibilities, of course. A secret invasion of robots pretending to be human? That crew led by not-Erza getting involved in the war against machines with her giant fleet? Shiki's past relationships with robotkind making him worry about who's right or wrong in this fight? Momcorp finally coming into play?! And most importantly, lots and lots of creative designs of robots because robots are great and I love them! We already have one that's a clown and Ziggy hasn't even been a villain for two full chapters yet!

Manga Rating:

101: 2/5

102: 3.5/5

Best Part: Ziggy goes Zurg.

Worst Part: Returning to Granbell.

Oh Mashima-senpai. You'll never change.
