Top 10 Anime Fights of 2015

Top 10 Anime Fights of 2015
Written by: ClayDragon & Shiggins

Fighting has become somewhat of a staple for anime shows, to the point where even non-shonen series tend to have at least one brawl in there somewhere. Some people may claim to be above such base forms of entertainment, but when you get right down to it everyone likes to see someone get punched in the face, and 2015’s anime had plenty of that to go around.

Side note: Whilst we made an effort to watch lots of shows that started airing this year, we couldn’t see them all. So if there’s a fight that you think should be on this list but isn’t, then it’s probably because we never got around to watching it, as opposed to us not liking it.

As is this the case with many of these lists, SPOILER ALERT. You have been warned.

Top 10 Anime Openings of 2015

Top 10 Anime Openings of 2015
Written by: ClayDragon & Shiggins

Openings are an often-overlooked aspect of anime, which is strange considering that their main purpose is to introduce you to the show and get you ready for the episode which follows. Of course, everyone has their own opinions as to what the greatest opening of all time is. But since it’s the end of the year, we thought we’d rank our favourite anime openings from 2015. Like with our other Top 10s of 2015, as long as the opening debuted this year, it’s eligible for this list.

Side note: Whilst we made an effort to watch lots of shows that started airing this year, we couldn’t see them all. So if there’s an opening that you think should be on this list but isn’t, then it’s probably because we never got around to watching it, as opposed to us not liking it.

Top 10 Anime Moments of 2015

Top 10 Anime Moments of 2015
Written by: ClayDragon & Shiggins

Following on from our Top 10 Anime Characters of 2015, we’re taking a look at the singular moments that made us laugh, cheer and cry this year. There were a number of memorable scenes this year, with a number of them easily becoming the defining moment for their respective series. As long as the scene in question aired this year, it’s fair game for this list.

Side note: Whilst we made an effort to watch lots of shows that started airing this year, we couldn’t see them all. So if there’s a moment that you think should be on this list but isn’t, then it’s probably because we never got around to watching it, as opposed to us not liking it.

Top 10 Anime Characters of 2015

Top 10 Anime Characters of 2015
Written by: ClayDragon & Shiggins

Well, it’s the end of another year. Instead of going out and partying with our friends and family, we got our priorities right and decided to make a couple of lists celebrating the anime series that were released these past twelve months. Over the next five days, we’ll be looking at the highlights that 2015 had to offer in terms of anime, and what better way to do that than by doing Top 10s? For this list, we’ve looked at the best characters that we were introduced to this year. This list will only count characters that made their debut appearance this year, regardless of when their show actually started airing.

Side note: Whilst we made an effort to watch lots of shows that started airing this year, we couldn’t see them all. So if there’s a character from a show that you think should be on this list but isn’t, then it’s probably because we never got around to watching the show, as opposed to us not liking them.

Fairy Tail Chapter 466 Review - Assassin

Written by Shiggins

NOTE: It turns out this chapter was occidentally released by Crunchyroll a week early, so I decided to keep quiet and wait a week to review this great chapter too.

Poor Zeref. He only wants someone to kill him!

After cleaning himself up between panels using magic, (yes. Somehow Death Magic removes injuries now... I don't know how either), Zeref tells Invel that they will continue their attack on the Guild for Fairy Heart. He then asks Invel to secure him new clothes more befitting an emperor. Yes, Zeref is ditching the old look. In fact, this review even has a sneak peek of how he'll look soon...

All rulers need to look the part!

Naruto vs Bleach vs One Piece - The 3 Fallen Heroes

Written by Shiggins

Remember The Big 3? Naruto was still running with flying colours, Bleach was at the top of it's game, and One Piece was somehow becoming the best-selling manga of all time. Everything seemed bright and hopeful, with little reason to complain unless you're a whiny bitch who can't find joy in anything. And today, I'm going to remember what was once considered the trilogy that everybody should read, by making them go to war for the title of "Best of the Bunch". And trust me when I say, you'll be surprised how close the results actually are.

Look at all these happy bunnies!

Blood Blockade Battlefront Anime Review

Blood Blockade Battlefront Anime Review
Written by: ClayDragon
Written by Yasuhiro Nightow – the creator of TrigunBlood Blockade Battlefront (a.k.a. Kekkai Sensen) tells the story of amateur photographer Leonardo Watch (also known as Leo) and his everyday life in the madcap city that is Hellsalem’s Lot. See, three years before the story started, an interdimensional rift opened up in New York City, and this event (known as the Great Collapse) let in a whole lot of weird and wonderful creatures. Somehow, these creatures managed to integrate quite well into human society, and NYC was reborn as Hellsalem’s Lot – a chaotic mess of superpower-wielding people, giant alien creatures, non-Euclidean spaces, and normal humans.

Fairy Tail Chapter 465 Review - 400 Years

Written by Shiggins

Exposition overload!

After my brief complaint about how chapter 463 was too much fighting, and 464 was the perfect amount of both combat and conversation, 465 seems to be taking the exact opposite route and creating a perfect balance by just bombarding poor Natsu with information about his past and who he is. To put it simply, Natsu's life is going down.

Obvious reference is obvious.

Fairy Tail Chapters 463, 464 & Special Chapter Review - Black Carpet, Natsu vs Zeref & Christmas Omake

Written by Shiggins

Zeref is adorable.

I'm serious. Even though I know he's the big evil villain and I should be wanting to see Natsu utterly destroy him, I can't stop looking at him and wanting to pinch his adorable sociopathic cheeks until they're all red and cute. Zeref is one of the cutest villains I've ever seen, and I had to remind myself we're meant to want this guy to die, during these two chapters.

Consider this my apology for no review last week.

Dragon Ball Super 6: Preparing for the Tournament review

Written by: The Inquisitor

The chapter starts with a battle that occurred a long time ago. Beerus had done something that pissed Champa off, so the Brothers of Destruction started to battle it out. After fighting for a few pages, and destroying multiple planets in the process, Champa reveals what Beerus did: he ate the puff-puff fruit that was on their birthday cake! ...It is impossible to make that sound dramatic.

I've been there Champa. I react the same way when someone eats my peanut butter.

Digimon Adventure Tri Part 1: Reunion Review - Infectious Nostalgia

Written by Shiggins

Part 2 Review: CLICK HERE

You feel old yet?

Yes, Toei Animation are actually releasing 6 movies in Japan to celebrate the 15th anniversary of glorious anime series Digimon. And yes, it's quite glorious. This movie follows the continuity of Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 2, so I wouldn't bother expecting Renamon or Impmon to make an appearance. However, trust me when I say you won't go home disappointed.

And before you ask, no. There is no bus.
Note: This review is mostly SPOILER-FREE.

Layla Heartfilia Theory

                                                          Written by: The Inquisitor

So, Brandish knew Layla. When that was revealed, I was immediately suspicious. Brandish looks like she's somewhere between 18 and 25 years old, and Layla died 15 years before the current arc, this would mean that she was 3-10 years old when Layla died. This fact makes it very unlikely that the two of they could have met, let alone have had a "long and irritating" history. That quote by Brandish brings up another point, what could the kind-hearted Layla Heartfilia have done to a ten year old that would cause her to have a grudge against Layla's entire family? There are a few possible answers.

Let the confusion begin.

Fairy Tail - Why It's Not Perfect

Written by Shiggins

Requested by Aquaconda T, it's Fairy Tail's turn to take a hit or two. Yes, the reviewer of Fairy Tail is going to be mean and criticise the shonen series starring Natsu, Lucy, Gray and Erza. Over the past few years, Fairy Tail's popularity has exploded and gone beyond anybody's expectations. And while I do love it and consider it one of my favourite series to read right now, I am a great man and therefore, I can use my vision to see the flaws. So here they are, just for the taking!

Problem #1: The manga had a lot of trouble with it's art at the beginning.

Fairy Tail Chapter 462 Review - Battlefield

Written by Shiggins

Go go, Fairy Taaaail!

Yes, the teams are formed and we're going to see some major ass-kicking from here on out. See, Bleach? THIS is how you do a war! Get all your characters together and have all of them doing shit. Deus Ex Machina is not a good thing... but anyway, enough cringing at Bleach. Let's move onto Fairy Tail, and damn is it getting good.

*puts this down like bait, to see what fishy readers I snap up*

One Punch Man vs My Hero Academia - Super Shonen Smackdown

Written by Shiggins

For me, 2015 is the year of superheroes. We got the amazing Age of Ultron and Ant-Man movies, a shit bunch of news throughout that was basically crying for a superhero to save the day, and of course, Japan released One Punch Man's brand new anime by my favourite all-time anime studio, Madhouse (Hunter x Hunter 2011, Beyblade, Trigun). Also, I recently discovered My Hero Academia, and it's come to my attention that the only thing more fun than watching superheroes, is watching superheroes beat the crap out of each other! Therefore, I have decided to use science, fact, logic and my own superior opinion to determine which heroic creation is the true series you should be spending your time on.

FIGHT! (What a couple of losers...)

Fairy Tail Chapter 461 Review - That Parfum is for Somebody

Written by Shiggins

MEN!

First of all, my humblest apologies for the small break I had. I have my own reasons, but I have returned to reviews and what a gift I got. I will have my feelings of reviews I've missed below, but until then shut up and enjoy the parfum of man! For you see, Ichiya has dominated the page!

I haven't pissed myself from laughing in so long... Thank you, Fairy Tail.

Bleach 650 Review – The Theatre Suicide: Scene 4
Written by: ClayDragon

WARNING: Sufferers of oclophobia should probably avoid reading this review.

So it turns out that Lille wasn’t kidding when he said he was invincible. Even though he got decapitated by Shunsui’s Bankai, he simply regrows a new head from his reiatsu. However, his new head isn’t exactly the same as his old one. In fact, with a freakishly long neck, no nose, vertically-lidded eyes and a beak, he’s about as far from his old face as he can get.

Fairy Tail Chapter 457 Review - Battle of the Naked

Written by Shiggins

Well, that could have been a LOT worse!

I remember last week I had a bit of a rant about the stupid inclusion of girls bathing together for no real reason, except maybe to just highlight Brandish's ability of power. And while this week didn't do anything to justify the nudity, it didn't succumb to the inappropriate water-wrestling image the title claimed would occur. In fact, it's a surprisingly interesting chapter on many levels.

I don't have a joke here. That's just funny.

Strike the Blood Anime Review

Strike the Blood Anime Review
Written by: ClayDragon

Imagine a city dedicated solely to housing demons and other supernatural creatures. A city where demons, witches and shamans are commonplace, and new magical advances are made every day. Kojou Akatsuki is an inhabitant of such a place, called Itogami City. Despite living in this place, Kojou only wants a normal life. Unfortunately, he happens to be the Fourth Progenitor – an incredibly powerful vampire with a host of magical familiars. As such, this causes him to be labelled as a potential threat, and so the government send an agent to observe him and, should he threaten the safety of the island’s inhabitants, kill him.

Attack on Titan - Season 2 Won't Bring Down My Walls

Written by Shiggins

OTAKU NUTS' 500TH ARTICLE!

Yeesh, that title was rather suggestive, huh?

How fucking amazing was Attack on Titan's first season? It had perfect animation, fantastic testosterone-raising music, and the action was so intense and felt so good that we could almost classify it as erotica! To put it simply, we all wanted to have this series' babies. Unfortunately, I have come to realise that there are three main reasons why Season 2 of Attack on Titan, though still most likely good, will not be as pants-changingly awesome as it's predecessor.

A comedy grave.

Top 10 Anime Characters Who Became Total Badasses

Top 10 Anime Characters Who Became Total Badasses
Written by: ClayDragon & Shiggins

Character development can be a wonderful thing. It can take weak, wimpy and annoying characters and, with a bit of time and effort, transform them into forces to be reckoned with. For this list, we’re looking at anime characters who, over the course of their series, went from being ineffective to amazing. As such, we’re not counting main characters, or characters who simply went from strength to strength.

Thanks to Cade Conner, who requested this list on ask.fm! (Sorry about the wait).

As is this the case with many of these lists, SPOILER ALERT. You have been warned.

Fairy Tail Chapter 456 Review - Order

Written by Shiggins

...Really?

Our newest chapter came out a bit early, which is perfect for me because I have a busy week ahead, so I was pleasantly surprised. The "pleasantness" of my surprise went down a few notches as I kept reading, and by the time I finished this chapter, I wasn't even sure how to respond. In some ways, I still don't.

And it only took him 9 years.

Fairy Tail Chapter 455 Review - Defence of Magnolia

Written by Shiggins

So... Mavis didn't see this one coming?

A bit early for me to start criticism but honestly, how could you be so smart and plan tactics to deal with every possibility, but you didn't come up with precautions for this one!? Honestly, that's the main thing that bothered me this week, but I suppose nothing says "we're so fucking screwed" like a situation where even the top tactician is unsure what to do next.

I know, Freed. You're right. You're always right.

Fairy Tail Chapter 454 Review - Team Flying Dragon and Team Osprey

Written by Shiggins

Let's hope this doesn't become Tartarus 2: The Same.

The army of fleets are here and with no time to waste, Mavis sounds the alarm. Ajeel orders the fleet to open fire with their cannons, but a large magical barrier blocks all the attacks. It turns out this barrage is being blocked by one of my all-time favourite gay characters; Freed!

Aww, my gayby has all grown up.

Yachiru Kusajishi: Vice-captain of Squad 11, president of the SWA, bane of Byakuya Kuchiki’s existence, and missing in action. The pink haired bundle of energy has been missing since the confrontation between Kenpachi Zaraki and Gremmy Thoumeaux. At some point during the battle, Yachiru disappeared, leaving her clothes and lieutenants badge behind. Where is she? Why did she disappear? Bleach - Why it's Not Perfect

Written by Shiggins

I've talked about why Ouran Highschool Host Club is not perfect. I've talked about why Naruto is not perfect. I've participated in explaining why One Piece is nowhere near perfect. And now, I'm going to finally take on the sword-obsessed shonen series known as Bleach. Just like with the other series I've done "Not Perfect" article on, this doesn't mean I hate Bleach. I just can see the glaring issues that get on my nerves. From stupidity to characters, I will be attacking the second ever anime series I checked out, and I will finally be finished with The Big Three of Shonen Jump!

...Claydragon is gonna be mad at me!

Note: As always, spoilers and reasons to get mad at me ahead.

Fairy Tail Chapter 453 Review - Parental Role

Written by Shiggins

I've had a crap week.

So imagine my surprise when Mashima-senpai's newest chapter came out a few days early, as if knowing I was feeling down and wanting to cheer me up. I appreciate it, sir! It actually did help a bit because although this chapter wasn't groundbreaking, I did still grow fond of it... and I'm also terrified now!

Sigh... I wish people reacted like this to my reviews...

Fairy Tail Chapter 452 Review - The Prelude to the Final Battle

Written by Shiggins

Finally, back to the main story!

Our newest chapter begins with Marin Hollow still alive and tiny. (Son of a bitch, I knew it!). As Marin has no other choice but to paint Brandish's toenails at this size, Dimaria Yesta enters the room and we can already see that Brandish doesn't exactly care for Yesta. Yesta asks about how and why Brandish let the Fairy Tail team escape, to which she sees she just didn't want to put in the effort.

My personal hell: Giant feet.

A Certain Scientific Railgun Anime Review

A Certain Scientific Railgun Anime Review
Written by: ClayDragon
Don't let the image fool you, this isn't exactly a girly show.
Are spin-offs of anime shows a good idea? On one hand, they could expand the world established in the original series and bring some new concepts to the table. On the other hand, they could run the risk of repeating the same mistakes the original show made, or make even worse ones. Fortunately, A Certain Scientific Railgun fixes virtually every issue that plagued its parent series, A Certain Magical Index.

The Soul King's Legs

Written by The Inquisitor

Ever since the introduction of Mimhagi, the Soul King’s right hand, there has been one question burning in the mind of everyone who reads Bleach: if the Soul King’s right hand is sentient and separate from the main body, are the other appendages separate as well?
Am I the only one that thinks its strange that he's missing both arms, but he's missing only the bottom half of his legs?

Fairy Tail Chapters 449, 450 & 451 Review - Mavis & Zeref, The One & Only in this World, and Fairy Heart

Written by Shiggins

Yes, I waited until all the flashbacks were done so I could review them in one! Sue me!

Our tragic story begins around 100 years ago, and if you haven't read Fairy Tail Zero then prepare to be utterly lost because it really does skip over that. Luckily, I reviewed all of them so I suggest you at least check out my reviews of the 11 chapters before continuing this one. We see how Mavis met Zeref (when he was naked of course), and how Mavis used an incomplete spell which caused her body to be unable to age.

I wonder if this is meant to be a hint that another "Fairy School" is coming.

Shimoneta - Do the Panties Hide More than we Realise?

Written by Shiggins

Is the title of this article clever or stupid? Let me know in the comments below!

Just like Kill la Kill in 2013, not a lot of people would openly admit that they watched Shimoneta, or to give it it's full name "Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist". The reason for this is a very simple one actually; It's so perverted! Episodes devoted to vibrators and constant shots of "ecchi" nudity, as well as the enormous amount of vulgar words that even the Japanese anime censors (with fun splat sounds, of course). And yet, after taking a moment to think about it, I realise it's actually one of the smartest series I've seen this year.

......No, I'm serious. This is a smart series! Please don't leave yet!

Fairy Tail Chapter 448 Review - FIGHT THE POWER

Written by Shiggins

Fairy Tail are back... yet again!

After another break, we return to Fairy Tail Guild. Yes, we've literally just gone right back home! And I'm not gonna lie, that opening page had me instantly unsure about how to accept this. Is it good we've all joined together and already left Zeref's country, for now? I don't think it is. It feels like their visit to the country was too quick, and honestly it's not the only disappointment this chapter has.

And now that I have been deprived of seeing this, my life will never be complete.

Fairy Tail Gaiden - Kengami no Souryuu Chapter 1 Review - The Melancholy of a Master

Written by Shiggins

Remember that spinoff chapter where Rogue squeezed Yukino's tit? This is a bit like that.

Ever since Sting and Rogue made their appearance in the series, you can tell Hiro Mashima-senpai is in love with the duo, as are many fans. And to be honest, I can totally see why. They're tough, they're cool and they're not as two-dimensional as some of the other characters. A spin-off about these two was probably inevitable and while I am admittedly disappointed Mashima can't do the art, this chapter is still worth talking about.

The art isn't awful... It's just finding it's footing.

Everyone talks about how awesome anime openings are. Heck, we have two lists about them! But very few people mention the endings. As a result, we decided that for the first time ever we had to make a Top 10 into a Top 20! And if you think it’s a long read, imagine how long it took us to write it all…

Fairy Tail Chapters 446 & 447 Review - The Land Abandoned by God & Escape Battle

Written by Shiggins

Max must feel like crap after this chapter!

After seeing how destructive the ability of sand can be thanks to characters like Gaara, I suppose Max should have always been feeling pretty down about his own magic. However, this chapter would definitely have him crying into that broom of his all night as we finally got our wish and saw another member of the Spriggan 12 in action.

So Ajeel is black and Brandish has green hair? Nice surprise there actually. I like it.

Noragami Anime Review

Noragami Anime Review
Written by: ClayDragon

Over the course of viewing anime, we’ve been led to believe that, whenever a god appears in one of these works, they will be powerful, noble beings, usually with a strong moral code. Noragami takes a somewhat different approach in that Yato, the main character and the titular stray god, is a lazy, greedy, and selfish person who is determined to claw his way to the top and become Japan’s most revered god. Sadly for him, he’s too much of a goofball to actually succeed. A loveable goofball, sure, but a goofball nonetheless.

Top 10 Former Anime Badasses

Top 10 Former Anime Badasses

There are no shortages of badasses in anime. Deities, reality warpers, time travellers… it’s almost a guarantee that regardless of what series you’re watching, there will always be one character who is far and away the coolest person in the show. Sadly, due to one reason or another, some characters fall from the spotlight and stop being badasses. This list celebrates (if that’s the right word to use in this situation) the characters who started off awesome, but began to exponentially decay as the series went on.

Bleach 636 Review – Sensitive Monster

I’m back! I apologise for taking so long, but the combination of holidaying and graduating (as well as the celebrations associated with said graduation) took up most of my time until recently. But enough excuses, you probably didn’t come here to see me talk about myself. You probably came here to see me talk about all the Bleach chapters I missed – we’ll get to them later on.

Fairy Tail Zero Chapters 12 & 13 Review - Zera & An Eternal Adventure

Written by Shiggins

Okay, now can we get the Levy spinoff?

Sorry, focus on this review first! This month gave us the final chapters of both Ice Trail and Fairy Tail Zero. (By the way, no. I'm not going to do a full review of Ice Trail. It bores me to tears). As endings go, Fairy Tail Zero didn't do anything shocking or unique but it did give us a few scenes we needed to see, including the resolution of the cliffhanger that 11 left us with: Zera the "ghost"!

I wonder if Hiro Mashima was inspired by Lewis Carroll in any way... (Good on you if you got that joke).

Fairy Tail Chapter 445 Review - The Ugly Fairy

Written by Shiggins

I JUST FINISHED A REVIEW!

Damn, these translators are getting faster! I'm gonna have to struggle to keep up now! And for whatever reason, this new chapter has been released ahead of schedule and I'm gonna toss it to you like I toss a scrap of meat to a group of hungry hell-hounds. However, this one gave me some satisfaction as we FINALLY met some of the Spriggan 12 and of course, plenty of Zeref.

I never thought I'd see Hiro Mashima senpai draw a Quincy.
