Fairy Tail 100 Year Quest Chapter 54 Review - God Seeds

Written by Shiggins

One-Elemental Four?

If your story is in trouble, you can have worse ideas than bring in new faces to cause trouble for a one-time encounter. Make them big, design them well and you'll end up making the road to the conclusion a lot easier. It worked when the Ginyu Force came along and, for the most part, it looks like it's worked here too. Hooray! Positivity!

Eden's Zero's king plus wood... I shall name him Twiggy!
Starting off from last time, Natsu is running away from a copy of Zeref by the God Seed Wolfen, who is losing control of Zeref's curse and is scared Aldoron is about to be destroyed by it. In an instant, Wolfen makes himself disappear and, we can assume, reverts back into a seed inside the dragon. Natsu is prepared to cause more Zerefs to appear, but a branch from below sucks him into the body of Aldoron itself.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Wolfen drones have disappeared as well, and are being replaced. The majority of Fairy Tail find themselves staring down a rather badass God Seed calling himself Metro, who summons an army of giant wood dolls to take on the group. And Jellal has reunited with Laxus and Erza, and they get the steamy-looking God Seed known as Gears confronting them. Jellal can obviously handle this one alone.

*looks at the giant weak spot on his chest* Hm... might not be too smart, this one.
Team Wendy also get their own goofy-seeming God Seed, Doom, who is taking advantage of them because they're all weak or out of magic. And this brings us back to Natsu, who is told by a voice that the five orbs each contained a guardian of Aldoron. Metro has the army (even though Wolfen had an army too...), Gears is a tactician, Wolfen reads minds and Doom kills. I mean, all of them seem able to kill but Doom really kills!

Because they're bad. Is it clear yet? The one called DOOM is bad. DOOM!
And the fifth God Seed reveals himself to Natsu, claiming to be Aldoron himself, leader of the God Seeds and Aldoron's "brain". Natsu thinks this makes it easier, which it probably does, but Aldoron deflects him without even moving, since he commands the entire dragon.

Opinion: Who knew trees could have veins on their muscles?

You all know I'm a big lover of the anime trope of a group of villains appearing together to be badasses, since that usually involves more personalities and motivations, as well as powers to display and exploit. And while it is predictable and I doubt we're going to see any unique motivations from the guardians, I can't deny that I'm glad we've at least got some sweet designs and new faces to make the mess we're in more colourful.

We could argue all day about where these Guardians/God Seeds were when their orbs were destroyed and why they waited so long to attack, but I'm more curious about the reason they were sealed in the first place. If I had to guess, I'd said these five, despite their good intentions for their master, are seen as too dangerous and extreme for the real big dragon Aldoron's liking. At least, that's what I'm assuming for now, because otherwise it means that this GS-Aldoron is the real Aldoron and it confirms what I said last time; Wooden dick. So that's my theory. Well-meaning but completely insane guardians.

So is his power that he can dig really fast? His name is Metro... yeah, I didn't know what to say about this one. Uh... Spiky?
Jellal is basically the One-Punch Man of Fairy Tail, which means his fight with hottie Gears won't be tense I'm sure, so let's consider the other two. We've got an army and Metro fighting the gang, so could this be Grey's turn to show off? Will he team up with Lucy, show us another Star Dress? I'd like that. However, Wendy's situation is more curious. Will Dr Doom be stopped by Touka waking up and using her powers, or a character jumping in to save the day? Could Spider-Man be about to jump in with a ridiculous 180? Oh, what if Irene takes control and... See, this is why new villains are better!

Oh and Natsu vs GS-Aldoron. Hm... I mean, he's powerful but my knowledge of Pokemon tells me the outcome. You don't bring a Cottonee to a Charizard fight.

Manga Rating: 3.5/5

Best Part: More newbies!

Worst Part: Clever Zeref plot lasted two pages.

Can't tell if Gray or Loke...
