Why Fairy Tail Sucked for Me

Written by: Micha

You could say that I’m one of those people who subscribes to certain anime just for the heck of hating them. I’ve thought about it for a while and even decided to fix it as my career choice.  I don’t really hate Fairy Tail, per say. Hate is a strong word. I don’t hate it at all. I’d rather prefer the term, if-you-love-FairyTail-I’ll-feed-you-to-a-tank-of-sharks-when-you’re-on-your-period kind of love.

Yes, Shiggins, I so would. With love, of course.
FairyTail started out okay for me, unlike Bleach which started from shit and ended with shit. In fact, I loved it when it started out, but then after a few volumes I noticed the few obnoxious little details I just could no longer put up with.

One of the reasons FairyTail sucked for me is because I can’t stand majority of the battles. The top factor that must appeal in a good shonen is the kickass battles, or we might as well watch shojo instead. But sadly, I find this anime to be producing the most horrible battles in the history of battling. They’re too short, have no strategy to them whatsoever. Just a couple of plain power punches fueled by friendship speeches that we see in every awful manga.

And to top it off, we got the battle with Hades, and I have no idea why Fairy Tail fans didn’t consider giving up this manga after what happened at the end of this horrible fight. The powerful villain was defeated with a pressing of a button by a blue, happy-go-lucky cat? Seriously, on a scale from 1 to Lucy’s ever bouncing breasts, how lame can shit get?

Speaking of breasts, another turn off for me in this manga is the shameless fanservice the FT mangaka provides us with. This blog is co-founded by two horny females, but even we don’t give that much fanservice. I think that this is a topic that even most of the FT fans would agree with. Fairy Tail is a manga with a good rating, and currently considered to be on the list of Big Four. However, the reason for the sheer less number of fanfictions in that fandom is because the manga itself is a fanfiction. There’s nothing to ship, it’s already shipped in the manga.

Also, it’s almost as if the mangaka believes that people won’t read his chapters if he doesn’t show some skin of his characters, which is a very, very wrong concept. And mind you, I’m not saying that a manga should not have attractive characters. It should. But it’s not necessary to constantly hang giant breasts and defined abs in our faces as if that’s what should be the main focus of the entire plot.

After all, the less you wear, the more powerful you get, right?
Another reason FT sucked for me is because they tend to use some of the badass personalities for comic relief. This maybe a bit controversial since many find this satisfactory, but I find this unbearable. For instance:

It’s things like this that gets my blood boiling. Why would they ruin such a badass character by making him sing karaoke and hug cats? It’s not just Gajeel, they did the same thing with Juvia, since the manga no longer focuses on her strengths, and rather it now focuses more on her tits, love life and hair styles. It’s not even comic relief anymore because I find this very depressing. I’m not sure why they’re not aware of this because doing this does nothing but steal the character depth, which is vital in a good shonen.
Let the badass stay badass.

A manga is allowed to have flaws. It’s near impossible not to have flaws. But the above mentioned three weaknesses are ironically what make up a terrible shonen manga. And it’s because of little flaws like these that Fairy Tail can never be on par with anime like Naruto and One Piece.

Certainly, Hiro Mashima is doing something right since this manga is on the Top Four (or maybe the readers are just retarded). I agree that Fairy Tail does have its strengths, for instance, I do enjoy the platonic love they have in the guild. And also the good morals of friendship and will power the manga conveys. However, such good things do not seem to outweigh the flaws of Fairy Tail. And if potential artists take up on this guy’s philosophy of manga, I’m afraid shonen manga will not have that bright of a future.

  1. I, 100% agree with you, except for Bleach though. I love Bleach, (maybe it's because I started watching Bleach first, before watching Naruto.) BUT ANYWAYS! To me FT is a piece of shit anime. It bores the living hell out of me, I only lasted 6 episodes at first but then after a while I decided to give it a chance. I lasted 21 episodes. I can't deal with any more FT, seriously. Like you said the fan service is really annoying, I haven't watched it but just simply googling "fairy tail".

    1. Thanks. Oh, you do? Bleach never really appealed to me in anyway. I just found it to be an ordinary shonen, nothing special. Oh well, to each of his own.
FT really is annoying, because the whole manga feels too fanfiction-y to me. I lasted longer than 21 episodes, but I snapped at one point too.

Thanks a lot for reading (and responding)!

    2. If you ask me, the main factor on how FT is such a piece of garbage is how Mashima, the mangaka, tries so hard to applies One Piece's nakamaship.... And Fail. Totally fail, it became fanservices driven manga. Up till now, I'm still in the dark how people can love this shit.

      Thank o\you.

Ps: I just have an urge to voice my opimion. Great blog here, mate.
Ps2: Bleach waaaay better than FT, though :)

  2. All the arguments raised are smart and have depth. But the first one takes the cake. The last two are still tolerable, but the first one was why I left reading the whole thing in the first place. By yelling and talking about friendships, they win against anyone, no matter how powerful. Augh, I dislike FT now. It used to be good.

And I feel that FT has become more commercial than anything, so it might be good to pass time, I guess.

  4. Like many people, I started off really liking Fairy Tail. I watched the English dub of the anime and wanted more, so I began to read the manga. Fairy Tail had a very promising beginning, and to some (myself included) it stayed decent for awhile after. It would irk me so much when people would continually bash Fairy Tail, calling it lame and full of fanservice and boring fights....But this was all before the Grand Magic Games arc.

That and the current arc are starting to sour the series for me. I agree that the fanservice has become so obnoxious and literally in-your-(or Natsu's...)-face and that the battles tend to be short and mainly fueled by repetitive friendship speeches. Just look at the latest few chapters: Natsu befriended/changed the dragon that was TRYING TO DESTROY THE WORLD two seconds ago with just a few sentences about love and friendship, and before that Lucy had all her clothes burned off and essentially gave Natsu's face a boob job.

It's sad but true that Fairy Tail is turning into a fanfiction....because I really don't want it to. :(

    1. It's really sad when your favorites start to become shit. I share your rage. I think FT can still be saved, but not at this pace. New manga are getting popular, and the ratings of FT will slowly go down if they keep this up.

  5. You basically just said everything I've thought about this show, except for one thing; the PLOT.
The PLOT. OHMYGOD. Probably the worst in any anime/manga I've ever experienced. Maybe not because of sheer badness, but because of all the wasted potential.
I remember when I first started FT, I was intrigued and curious about the mysterious characters Jellal and Mystogan. (Cont.)

    ReplyDelete
  6. (Cont.) Without spoilers, I'll just say this: they uncovered the characters WAY too soon for an ongoing, and in doing so they completely ruined the vibe. The way they dealed with their stories was outrageous, too. (The council was proved utterly f***ing useless, wtf?)
And the 7 year time skip was completely pointless if none of the main characters change at all. (They even acted like nothing happened afterwards, too.)
Last but not least, it seemed like FT served as nothing more than a reminder that fans should not dictate the content. Left and right, super awesome characters of both genders were being completely ruined and turned into sex objects. Not to mention that every enemy/villian that showed the slightest amount of fan interest was immediately turned into a regular protagonist. Of course a little dynamics in villians is okay, and encouraged, but FT went well overboard, to the point where it's expected.
Also, why the hell is every 2nd f****ing person a damn Dragon Slayer? So much for the premise of Natsu being the last of a dying breed. Gawd.
Okay, rant over xD I liked the anime at first, but after a while I just couldn't ignore the countless flaws. If I had to rate the overall series (anime, but I didn't quite finish it,) I'd say 4/10. Poor.

    2. One Punch Man by ONE is an comedy action shonen web manga, it's kinda a sarcasm theme to majority shonen manga these day, it was redrawn by Yusuke Murata (ES21 artist).

Try to read it, it has unique story (and amazing art if you read the remake version) :)

I kind of agree with you,and first It started awesome for me but then when i already watched alot episodws of it i always knew natsu is gonnna win no matter how strong the fuckin enemy is -.- he goes all like nakama punchhh and he win :I instant powerups all the time =_= but i still sticked with it since i reallly only liked wendy lmao so believe me i watched all the episodes :L so predictable shet everytimeee if mashima didnt always do fukin nakama punch all the time and stupid fast fight and alot of fanservice it culd stand next to naruto or sumthing but these day i realized ft was loved by everyone i dont get why :L it makes me cry

    1. OMG THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH.
I quit the stupid ass anime because of Natsu winning every fucking fight with no surprise. How in the fuck did he beat the Twin Dragons of Sabertooth by himself with THE SAME FUCKING MOVES when 3 minutes ago he was getting his ass whooped with Gajeel trying to help?!
      Fuck Fairy Tail.

      Delete
    2. that is true i mean like the fights have no strategy and of course natsu wins every fight with the same moves but naruto fights are longer fun and have more strategy to it instead of fire punch every time.

  9. Ah, for this one, I don't agree with you ^^. I love FT (at least, until where the anime stopped, I didn't follow the manga afterwards).
But I understand why you stopped liking it.
Personally, it's one of the few anime/manga that has battles during which I'm not "Oh God, make it end NOW !" unlike Naruto or Bleach battles (that I love too). Maybe that's because they are short ? Also, I love the comic relief used in this manga (especially for Gajeel, Erza and Juvia). To me, that's what is part of their great personalities. But as I said above, I understand that you (and maybe other people) dislike these things. With this kind of things, it's either love it or hate it.
But yeah, even on stuff we don't share the same opinion on, I like to read your articles, because you have an amazing writing style :).
I only discovered this blog tonight, and I have already read many of articles (yours are my favourite). I glad I stumbled upon it, thanks Google !

PS : Oh, and though I love Fairy Tail, it's considered as a big failure in Japan. Or so is the impression I got from my trip in Japan in July. NOBODY knows it. Even the 'anime specialists' I met there didn't know it and thought it was One Piece (due to the similar art style). I was shocked to discover it was only loved in western countries...

    1. Haha. It's okay to disagree. I've started reading the manga due to Shiggins, the FT reviewer (fuck you, Shiggins) tempting me with a certain character in FT that I have lesbian feelings for, but wouldn't mention the name for the sake of my dignity and already wounded pride. I like the manga very much (fuck you, Shiggins). It's so much better compared to the anime.

That means a lot to me. First time seeing a comment like this on OtakuNuts. Words cannot convey how thankful I am to you and Google. If you were searching something about Hinata, it's highly possible us to be on the first page, courtesy of my Hinata articles I wrote to piss off some random people I meet in places.

You went to Japan? Ah, the otaku dream.. Do tell me about the trip. And I had no idea that Japan react that way towards FT....

    2. OoOoh, now you made me curiouuuus (*v*) !! Who is this character ? I think that as long as it's not Lisanna which is for me the equivalent (in just a TAD less annoying) to Hinata and even worse Orihime, your honnor and dignity are pretty safe x).
About the anime, what makes it great to me, it's the OSTs that are about as good as NARUTO's ones (except that NARUTO's are japanese style, FT's ones sound like western music). Otherwise, well, it's not an exceptional anime.

Well, when I see good work, I have to tell the author, that's only natural ^^. Lately, a lot of bloggers don't really put effort in their articles, and since yours make a delightful use of sarcasm and just the right dose of humor, their deserve praise. Keep up with the good work gurl, you gained yourself a new reader (>w° )b **nice guy pose** !
And yeah, after reading all the fan-bullshit on Hinata on funnymama, I wanted to see if she was popular everywhere, I glad to know it's not the case.

Yep, I fulfilled my dream I had since I was 12 (and I'm now 20) ! And yeah, anime-wise, people think differently there. I can tell you a little about it (but it's gonna take a lot of pixels on your blog, haha ^^). First, out of all the people I met there, only 3-4 people liked manga and anime. I new from the very start that there weren't going to be A LOT of theme, since it's a very specifical culture, either considered to be for kids or otaku. "Normal people" who watch/read a few anime/manga don't bring it up loudly generally (unlike our weeaboos here).
What stoke me the most there, was that they don't only love One Piece, they WORSHIP it. I really mean it. You can't go anywhere without finding OP-related goodies. Be it the supermaket, the train, the temples, everything is for One Piece there. They seem to particulary like the mermaid with pink hair (I stopped reading OP after tome 20, so I don't really know about it). There are big figures of her in every anime related shop (there are also hentai figures of the other girls of OP too, I was shocked to see that). About NARUTO, I was also surprised to see that there is almost no goodies of it. And I went to the OTAKU part of Osaka (you know it's otaku when you see middle-aged men wearing cosplays of young female characters in the street xD), but yeah, there were VERY few goodies of it, like figures here and there, but it's nothing compared to the One Piece cult.
Let alone BLEACH, I saw absolutely NO GOODIES of it anywhere. It's now placed at the end of Jump (which means that it's losing popularity, you may know it already, but the more the manga is toward the beginning of the magazine, the more it's popular). What it popular right now is Gintama, I saw quite a lot goods of it everywere, it's generally placed at the beginning of Jump. I started to watch it when I came back to France, less than a week ago, a while it's fun, I really don't understand why it is still so successful, but since I'm only at the beginning, I'll watch more, maybe it'll make more sense after...
About Fairy Tail, I saw almost nothing of it. The only "goods" I saw of it were collectible cards at Nihonbashi (Osaka's Akihabara) Animate (a big building of 4 or 5 floors, full of pure manga awesomeness). I was there with a japanese guy who has read and watched his fair share of manga and anime, and he didn't know FT, he thought it was One Piece at first sight, due to the art style being similar to Oda-sensei's style (it was also my case when FT came in France, I thought it was a new manga by Oda-sensei... which is why I didn't bother read it at first).

    3. Oh, do not worry. It's not Lisanna. I could never like her. She makes me want to lie on bed all day and cut myself, but the thought of my lover in FT keeps me alive and functional (yes, still not telling you).
I like the songs in FT, too. But I just can't tolerate the anime. Or any anime. I've given up on anime ever since Naruto's battle with Pein, and have decided to be in a committed relationship with manga. My loyalty will not waver.

I'm grateful that you like my writing style, and I will improve to get even better. Feel free to suggest me or other writers any topic you wish to be covered.

Funnymama sucks balls, I know. It's the corner of our fandom that kids go to. They make us look bad. Very, very bad.

Oh yes, I heard that they're not very much in to manga. And OP is extremely popular, which I can't figure out why. I never liked OP, to be honest. I don't think anybody on this blog likes OP. And if you have noticed the similarity between FT and OP designs, that is because FT's mangaka was a pupil of Oda's.

I've never read Gintama but I've seen tons of clips and gifs. It's so hilarious. It's one of those anime that I don't watch but love for some reason.

    4. I kept the most popular for the end : the manga/anime that is all the rage now is of course Shingeki no Kyojin. I'm ashamed to say that I didn't know it prior my trip in Japan, but the guy of my host family (who is also a big manga/anime lover) told me to watch it, and it's so awesome that I bought almost all goodies of it everywhere xD. Because yeah, it's EXTREMELY popular, goodies, cosplay parts, Shingeki no Kyojin is everywhere. And just like here, Mikasa and Levi are the most popular characters.

There were also two things that were interesting, anime-wise, during my trip : my visit a the Jump Shop and the interview I gave to a guy, at Osaka University, who's studying manga/anime and their popularity abroad.

First, when I went to the Jump Shop (pics) :
      http://nimga.fr/f/jam23.jpg
      http://nimga.fr/f/rRS1b.jpg
The shop clerk, a nice young lady (who made me buy a lot) instantly became my sis'-in-tastes. Just like me, she disliked Orihime and Hinata (she even wanted to hide a goodies that featured the cover of NARUTO 64th tome xDDD). There were a quite a lot of Naruto goodies, T-shirts and stuff, but of course, One Piece is still #1 and has more goodies because more popular (it sell about 10 millions more OP books than NARUTO's). It's the only place where there were BLEACH goodies (and very few), she seemed suprised when I told her that Kenpachi was quite popular here (and that is was my fav' character).
In general, japanese people are very happy were strangers know about their manga (especially when I mentionned Hikaru no Go, a former Jump manga, and my favourite one with NARUTO, they all knew it, even "grown-ups" when I mentionned it, in France, I barely get any reaction when I mention it). They like it when you mention old ones (like HnG, Shaman King, Captain Tsubasa, etc.).

And the interview, in short, was also interesting, because the guy was always surprised at what we said to him. When we told him that in France, the fanbase of NARUTO is about as big a OP one, he was shocked, because there, NARUTO is nowhere close to OP. He also confirmed to me that Fairy Tail wasn't very known in Japan and couldn't believe that it was such a big success outside Japan (but as you said yourself, FT gives free fanservice to its fans, they don't even have to create or ask for it, Mashima-sensei includes it in all his chapters).

Oh, and now I remember something : a few days before my departure to France, I went to a certain city train station (that was between Osaka and Hiroshima), and there, I saw literaly TONS of Naruto flyers, pamphlets, posters and quite a lot of goodies : they seemed to have been made for a certain event that was big enough to have the trains fully Naruto-decorated : http://www.elbakin.net/fantasy/news/19513-Le-Japon-aux-couleurs-de-Naruto
Unfortunately, I discoved this too late and couldn't attend the event but there were a LOT of Naruto related stuff, goodies, activities for lil' kids, etc. There even was a "Naruto-edition" of a bottle of tea and since I don't drink tea I asked a friend to drink it so I could keep the bottle x).

Oh, sorry for the two walls of texts, feel free not to read everything if it annoys you (é_è).

    5. Oh yes. I heard it's really good. all my friends are reading that manga. I just don't have the will to start a new manga at the moment. So I'm going to hold up that manga.

    6. Lol okay (at least someone agree that she should have stayed dead) xD. As long as you're not taking MY Mavis, you're allowed to have anybody else.
Well, at least, you're sure not to see any of the bullshit the fillers have to offer us (last one in date : Naruto was actually friend with Shikamaru, Ino, Choji, Sakura and Kiba at some point of his childhood but they became amnesic and forgot they were friends which is was Naruto continued to be alone until team 7 ==').

Okay ! But need to read everything you (people of this blog) wrote, so I can suggest something that hasn't been covered yet !

Agreed. I go on funnymama only to satisfy my need of Shingeki no Kyojin stuff. Period.

Oh, I thought so (that Mashima-sensei was Oda-sensei's pupil) ! Thanks for confirming it !
I have a theory about Gintama and OP success : there both very similar in the fact that their stories are simple with a lot of humor, and can be understood by anybody, of any age, in Japan.
But what Gintama managed to do and that is quite exceptional is the fact that it is successful even if the hero is not a young boy but a grown-up man in his twenties. That's quite rare. I can only think of one manga that did the same : Kenshin (but it was very dark... maybe it's the theme of the samurai that make this adult thing acceptable ?). Even Dragon Ball started with the youth of Goku.

Okay, just lemme finish my auction on Yahoo!Auction :). But I think you realized it already, my English is far from perfect (it's what I study at uni, but it's still terrible), so you'd have to correct me.

    10. @princessdiana: Have you seen Bakuman? Since the story in that manga took place in modern Japan about an aspiring mangaka (more or less), it gives us a bit of understanding about the manga/anime scene in Japan. If you watch/read the anime/manga, you know instantly how big One Piece is in Japan.

But that being said, if Naruto/Bleach/FT are so unpopular, they would have discontinued the manga after only some few chapters, and the anime would never continue as long as they have. Alas, both Naruto and Bleach already have a few movies, many video games franchise on many platforms, etc. etc. and they (Shonen Jump) celebrated the final chapter of Naruto in a special way, so it can't be too bad, though understandably, no current anime running in Japan is as big as One Piece.

I think it's a cultural thing. People in Asia love humor and simple storytelling, which is why Doraemon is THE only anime character that had ever appeared in Time magazine Asia. We called him "Asian Hero". If you haven't heard of this anime, and you're above 12, I doubt you'll find anything special about it lol. But that's the anime and manga I grew up with, as an Asian living in Asia (I've only been to Japan once and it was when I was really small, we were visiting my uncle who was studying in Kumamoto).

I've only started watching Naruto when I was a lot older, and I understand why Naruto appeals so much to western audience. Almost the same reasons the west love The Matrix so much. They both provoke you to think beyond what's in front of you and ask you to challenge what you've already believed in.

  10. -_- I don't like fairy tail that much either, I'm not hating on the show or anything. Its just that i hate Natsu! Because he always fights with all the bosses every time that it becomes predectible, but worst of all he always win by "Luck Power"!?! The writers must of been really bored while making this series if every time it's the head character they focus on. They have to know this already! [That the fans have different favorite character in the show] My fav character is Grey, but he's really weak and never gets in any action just like the rest except for Natsu. Tnx allot stupid writers! This anime doesn't come close to Naruto,DBZ,Bleach,One Piece and Attack on Titan. In Naruto u see a knucklehead kid that always failed in class cause he didn't know how to make a single shadow clone, Then with allot of (training, and hard work) he learned rasengan, rasenshuriken, sage mode plus he learned to control the demon that was sealed inside of him! Now his style of fighting is like a genius! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e__fQMYx6LA <this link will show you how smart Naruto is now. He was always hated by his own village when he was a kid, but that all changed when he defeated Pain, on that episode when all the villagers cheered for him was the mos emotional scene ever! But Natsu i never seen him train! He always wins battles that are impossible by making a stupid angry face and screaming " I'm all fired up now!". Naruto used his brains when he fought with the 3rd Raikage, that batlle looked impossible to win but he did it, if u copied the link that was above you know what i'm talking about. But Naruto wasn't always the character that the writers focused on. Sasuke Defeated naruto when they where small when he joined Orochimaru, then sasuke went against Orochimaru,Itatchi,Killer Bee,The Raikage,Gara and Danzo etc. And he defeated them, he even killed some of them. So there u see that U can be a fan of more characters in Naruto. But fairy tail is just not good for that. That disappoints me :/ . The love in the guild is all great, but they're like the cheerleaders for Natsu. Natsu becomes stronger just by hearing stupid words while Naruto trains and changes into a man, u can see this in (Naruto and Naruto Shippuden). How dare u call yourself a man when your still a boy that will never grow up Natsu. -_- I'm not a hater, i like the series but the main character is really screwing the show.

    1. And your remarkable words of criticism is...... pink hair. What about stupidity? Lack of variety in fighting style? Overuse of friendship?
Bleach and Fairy Tail both suck.
Bleach characters have no personality and are boring. Fairy Tail characters have too much friendship and is boring.
Bleach tries too look cool, but becomes a laughingstock when it takes its ridiculous and convoluted plot seriously. Fairy Tail tries to sell more volumes by ripping-off One Piece's art and it's format, but it backfires when it loses any sense of being unique and the plot doesn't go anywhere.

    2. Fairy Tail dpesn't rip off One Piece. Fairy Tail and One Piece rip off Dragon Ball
Because both FT' and OP authors look up to the author of DB or something like that

  16. Yes. Yes. YES. I always wondered why people (specifically my cousin and my friends) are absolutely obsessed with this show despite how the author just seems to draw huge boobs and shower the fans with fanservice and gives absolutely no fucks about the plot. And as I was typing the previous sentence, I realized that I actually knew the reasons all along. Boobs and fanservice. Yet they (cousin and friends) claim that they like the show for the plot. What a big stinking pile of bull manure.
Seriously, it's nice to see that I'm not the only one who can see how ridiculously stupid this show is. My cousin bribed me (yes, I was given something) to watch 50ish freaking episodes of this nakama-filled nonsense with him but I was not happy. It's pretty much a children's show except it involves perverted moe shit along with the guy who strips down to his underwear in public because he used to do it as a child when he was training. Hilarious.
Anyway, I noticed someone mention Gintama here. I love that show. I thought it was stupid at first and well, it really is stupid. It's the good kind of stupid though - the stupid that makes you laugh because of sheer what-the-fuck-ness. And as for Shingeki, it's an enjoyable series as the author actually uses his brain in creating the story.

  18. Fairy Tail is annoying but i can't despise it because its like my own family. i can't abandon my family no matter how annoying it is. i like almost everything in FT. too bad :

    1. most of the battle suck. they don't show tactics or pseudo-scientific phenomenons. i mean like when Sasuke fights Deidara (NARUTO). that is full of tactics and pseudo-scientific phenomenons, FT battles should be like that too.

    2. FT also shows big gaps between major chara and minor chara. some of the chara have no chances to show their true strengths. they don't seem to be much helpful. making them look useless. look at NARUTO, even Shikamaru and Choiji can be so much helpful.

    3. and fanservices.... ah. some are seen in the wrong places and times. like when Minerva stabs Kagura, Kagura's breasts look bigger than their actual size. and when Flare says she is home in her hometown. both scenes are emotional and serious scenes. the fanservices really ruin them!

the battles may make me laugh hard but the fanservices make me upset.and Hiro, could you please be consistent with breast sizes ?

    4. as for anime, it kinda irritates me that epic and emotional scenes have short screen times.

    ------

and oh, this last chapter shows the most ridiculous scene ever. only one chapter! Natsu beats Jackal only with nakama power lightning punch . before that Jackal showed his terrifying abilities to destroy big parts of the city and lock two people in his time bombs in previous chapters, i thought it would be long and rough battle.... (which made me stupid for expecting that).

plus Happy suddenly became super exceed! when Jackal is about to detonate himself to destroy the whole city, Happy carries him to the sky. and after that big explosion, he survives ???? WTF!
nakama power really overcomes anything here in FT.

Fairy Tail is like family, i can't abandon it although it is annoying! i can't break up with!

    1. You say Naruto and Bleach have TACTICS?

Yeah, Natsu is stupid and does not think when he fights,
      Natsu wins with Nakama-Power

Naruto wins with bigger rasengans or more shadow clones

      Ichigo wins with bigger swords.

Everyone has his own way I guess, but tactics? where?

    2. Are you F#!king serious Naruto and One Piece have no tactics (As for Bleach never watched the show), this is what really pisses me off, people who havent read or watched the manga they are fricking bagging on, or people who just don't know what their talking about.

I mean how can you say Naruto has no tactics, its probably one of the only shows that have tactics filled in every fricking arc. Its not a show where characters rely on shere strength, i promise you that. Naruto Has never won a fight just because he made a bigger rasengan maybe in filler.

I beg you to please please watch these fights and post again to tell me what you think:

  19. One of things that enraged me the most was at the battle with Natsu vs Max. I liked it at the first at how Natsu was getting his shit beaten, but then he just suddenly did that Karyuu no roar of thunders and all that bullshit and instantly fvcked the battle up.

    SO. LAME.
Other thing which also makes me angry is the fanservice too.
Or when they were at that hot pool bath or something, they stand up and the camera instantly zooms to their butt or something.

    Also, big boobies fking everywhere.

  20. I tottally agree, (Only seen the first 84 episodes correct me if i'm wrong) I have mad respect for FT but FT can be so unrealistic sometimes, an rellying on winning battles on who gets motivated more with no real strategy in battles like you would see in naruto or one piece. for example when natsu and gajeel first fought laxus, natsu and gajeel were getting pounded all through the battle and getting no hits on him, but suddenly in one moment natsu gets really motivated then gets one good shot on him and laxus is down K.O.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The only point I can really agree with is the ridiculous amount of fanservice but saying that their battles have no strategy is a gross exaggeration. There are instances of battle strategy in FT not on par with Naruto of course but no less than One Piece. As far as putting all badass characters in comic relief situations is more realistic to be honest considering that no one is cool all the time its not humanly possible.

  22. I love this post! I used to like fairy tail but that was spoiled by the crappy plot and character development. The battles are really bad and very boring, to the point that i couldn't stand it anymore, and the 'villains' also don't even seem remotely evil enough to me.
To be honest, I dont understand why this manga is often placed on One Piece's level; OP is wayy better- its original, funny and the characters are better in every aspect :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. You shouldn't say that Fairy Tail fans are retarded. We - well, I hope I speak for the some of us fans - are perfectly aware of those flaws you mentioned.
I sometimes feel the urge to punch Hiro Mashima's face for the fanservice.
And the battles in Fairy Tail are basicaly mages throwing their magic at each other and regardless of who is more powerfull, Natsu wins. Fucking redundant.

The strange thing is, I like Fairy Tail more than any of the big3. I think one of the reasons why are the comic relief moments that annoy you so much. Thanks to these moments I don't get the feeling that the show takes itself too seriously. The anime is brainless fun, with emotional moments here and there and great soundtracks.

I also like Fairy Tail because it hasn't reached the point (yet) where countless characters are suddenly introduced, who apparently are soo important but I have no real connections with (third shinobi war in naruto, whatever is going on in One Piece *cough cough*)

Yeah, Natsu is a hot headed retard with spiky pink hair, but 90% of shounen protagonists are hot headed retards. With spiky colorful hair.
It's just personal taste, but I feel that the battles are not the main selling points for Fairy Tail. It`s the story. Fairy Tail isn't about some boy with some powers wanting to become stronger. Natsu is supposed to be strong at the very start but his full power shows when he fights for his nakamas, similar to how the full potential of our talents only show when were're in a specific kind of situation (ever tried to get good grades under exam pressure?^^). So his job IS to get all emotional and to beat the crap out of bosses.
Fairy Tail's story is devided in arcs concentrating on different charakters at a time (Phantom arc: Lucy, Moon Drip arc: Gray, Tower of Heaven: Erza, Edolas: Mystogan etc) So Natsu isn't the main focus, although he gets all the boss battles.

I really don't think Fairy Tail is all that bad. It's just not perfect

  28. This blog is awesome I've thought all these things to.like most of you I liked Fairy Tail a lot I thought it was awesome cause I love anime that deals with Magic. I was on the Natsu Bandwagon I thought he was as cool as Goo i for a while, but when I got to episode 48 When Natsu beat Laxus I was like no fucking way that's just not right. As I watched more I begain hating natsu, Lucy, Gray, and Erza there so fucking annoying and one dementional. Lucy is a dumb useless cry baby Whore who should just fuck natsu already and get it over with, Gray just a giant downer it's like just get with Juvia already most men would kill for a girl like that, and Erza WHAT THE FUCK OP much and either get with Jallal or tell him to get bent personally I hate Jallal he's a cry baby, such a downer He makes me wanna slit my wrists it's like dude get over it yeah you did bad things kill yourself or move on pick one, and I'm so sick of the fucking Dragon Slayers its like who fucking cares they all suck non of them have ever killed a Dragon and never will cause the dragons are over the top OP except Natsu Fucking Dragneel will be the only one who will to kill one and I bet money it will be Acnologia. I've gotten my hopes up on so many villains to not kill them but live up to the hype like Hades, Zancrow, and many others. I'm sorry but Fairy Tail NEVER should of won the Grand Magic Games I could of got behind if they came in third or hell even second, Fourth would have been better like yeah were back were strong but still need work but nope straight to first like come on your telling me that seven years of being frozen missing three months of training and big deal your container is unlocked ladie da who cares, every other guild has busted there ass every year for the games I call BS. I know I'm ranting I'm sorry but I do like this anime I really do there are things to like but there's so much bullshit, personally I think Cana should run the guild yeah she's a drunk but think back to the phantom Lord arc and the Daphne arc who ran that shit Cana fucking Alberona like a boss I'd didn't see Erza running shit, and yes Cana is my favorite Charater and if I could have a anime character as a wife it be her, I don't think Erza can tun a guild hell what about Mira every time the master left Mira ran thr guild it's like come on yeah Erzas strong so what she's a bossy aregent bitch who should be taken down a peg. I still like Fairy Tail cause it can turn around it really can I hope it dose but maybe hiro should start introducing New guild members or shine the spotlight on other characters longer then 60 seconds.

  29. Great article; well-articulated and inclusive of (almost) everything i hate about this series.
A bit of a background info: i used to love FT to death. No kidding. Whereas most of the readers were annoyed by the absurd amounts of friendship speeches and friendship power-ups, i was actually very lenient towards it for some time; in fact, i considered the friendship power-ups were legitimate. Naturally you tend to do a better job when you're motivated, and FT's protagonists are largely motivated by friendship (though it began to feel stale after a while, i still tolerated it.)
However, what forever destroyed my opinion for this series was Erza's victory against Kyouka during the Tartaros arc. To those of you who are lucky enough to have not read it, here's a summary of what happened: Erza's senses were taken away by some demon named Kyouka, but somehow she managed to land a hit. I was curious as to what trick was left in Erza's bag this time, but the only rationalization given was from Happy: it's because she's Erza. Go figure.
Now i only read this manga because it has already become a weekly chore of sorts for me, and i just want to see how it ends.

  30. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks fairy tail is shit. I was in denial at first but the recent chapters made made me see the light. All the battles suck and are predictable it will always have friendship speeches and a lot of boobs. They just have to mention friendship and the villian rolls over in defeat, ugh. And we never see growth in the characters, they just remain the same way as they were as kids come on change is inevitably. Plus don't get me started on those quick revivals, it takes the seriousness of death out of the show and turns it into something to be taken lightly. I am not even motivated to see how fairy tail ends.
